# What It's Actually Like to Wake Surf in Miami for the First Time

I remember my first session like it was yesterday. Here's an honest, first-person account of what to expect.

## The Nerves

I was nervous. I'd surfed a little, but the idea of starting in the water and letting a boat pull me up was intimidating. The instructor was patient — he walked me through the starting position three times on land before we got in the water.

## The First Tries

The first two tries I came up and immediately fell. The third try I got up, rode for about 5 seconds, and fell. By the fifth try I was riding the wake consistently.

## Dropping the Rope

About 45 minutes in, the instructor told me to try dropping the rope. I let go, pumped the board twice, and suddenly I was surfing. No rope. Just me and the wave. It's a feeling I'll never forget.

## The Moment It Clicks

When wake surfing clicks, it really clicks. You stop thinking about the mechanics and just surf. The wave is forgiving, the water is warm, and the Miami skyline is right there in front of you.
