# Beginner's Guide to Wake Surfing in Miami

Never wake surfed before? Here's everything you need to know about your first session in Miami.

## The Starting Position

You start in the water, lying on your back with your feet on the board. The rope is in your hands. As the boat accelerates, you let it pull you up onto the board.

## Dropping the Rope

Once you're up and riding, the goal is to drop the rope and surf the wave on your own. This usually happens within the first hour for most beginners. The key is to pump the board to generate speed and stay in the "sweet spot" of the wave.

## What Makes Miami Great for Beginners

- Biscayne Bay is calm and warm year-round
- The slow boat speed (10–12 mph) means falls are gentle
- Most Miami operators have certified instructors on board
