# Wake Sports Safety in Miami: What Every Rider Should Know

Safety is the foundation of a great wake sports session. Here are the essential rules.

## Required Safety Equipment

- **Life jacket** — USCG-approved, always worn while in the water and while riding
- **Helmet** — Required for beginners, strongly recommended for all riders
- **Spotter** — A designated person on the boat watching the rider at all times

## Rules on Biscayne Bay

- No wake sports within 300 feet of swimmers or non-motorized vessels
- No wake sports in designated no-wake zones
- No wake sports within Biscayne Bay National Park boundaries
- All riders must be able to swim

## What to Do When You Fall

- Stay calm and keep your life jacket on
- Hold the rope handle up out of the water so the boat can see you
- Wait for the boat to circle back — never swim toward the boat
